UiTM has the chance to win title in hockey league

UiTM stayed in contention for the title when they defeated Olak 5-2 in a Division One match of the Selangor Hockey League at the Pandamaran Hockey Stadium in Klang recently.

UiTM, with 12 points from four wins and a defeat, have the golden chance to pip JLJ and RAMD to the Division One title if they can upstage Selangor Sikh and Selangor Police in their next matches.

JLJ, who have completed their fixtures, have 16 points while RAMD, with a match against Olak to be played tonight, have 14 points.

The match between Olak and UiTM was crucial for both teams. Olak needed maximum points to stay in the chase for the title.

UiTM took the lead in the 21st minute when Adam Mohd Kadir scored. Then Wan Shariq Wan Ahmad Zaki made it 2-0 for UiTM in the 27th minute. Two minutes later Olak scored through K. Satish.

After the break, UiTM took charge and Wan Muhamad Fazal Ismail and Nazmi Kamaruddin scored in the 51st and 60th minutes to make it 4-1 for UiTM.

Olak were not prepared to throw in the towel and got a goal through skipper Nur Hrsikesa Md Murni in the 67th minute. But Mohd Azrul Azizan scored for UiTM in the 69th minute for a morale boosting 5-2 win.

Selangor Indian Association (SIA) had mixed fortune in Division Two. SIA defeated Projek 11-b 4-3 but lost 1-4 to Synergy.

Deputy organising chairman P. Kuganesan said the Division One and Division Two matches would come to an end on Sunday.

The top five teams in Division One and top three teams will advance to the quarter-finals to decide the overall champions.

The quarter-finals will be played on Dec 8-9 while the semi-finals are scheduled for Dec 15-16. The final will be played on Dec 20.
